One of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most ambitious projects, Baiju Bawra, is making headlines once again. According to Deccan Chronicle, SLB’s team has already begun pre-production work. Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor is said to be a big admirer of vintage music and often starts his mornings with classics from the 1950s, including tracks from the original Baiju Bawra (1952). He is even introducing his daughter Raha to these timeless tunes.

The actor, who will soon appear in Bhansali’s upcoming film Love and War, is now reportedly in talks to headline Baiju Bawra.

Cast Speculations: Ranbir or Ranveer, Deepika or Alia?

Over the years, the casting of Baiju Bawra has been the subject of much speculation. Early reports suggested Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were finalised, while other reports claimed Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were considered. At one point, it was also reported that Ranveer had begun prep for the role, but Bhansali shifted focus to Heeramandi and Love and War.

However, insiders insist that no official cast has ever been locked. An industry source told News18, “Baiju Bawra is the most speculated film of the year. But nothing is confirmed. Only SLB knows who he wants; it’s all in his vision.”

Adding to the confusion, some reports suggested Ranbir had turned down the project, citing his less-than-pleasant experience working with Bhansali during Saawariya (2007). Other sources, however, refuted this, stating the only SLB film Ranbir declined in the past was Guzaarish (2010).

About Baiju Bawra

Reportedly, the film will be a grand musical drama based on the rivalry between two legendary singers. It is said to be inspired by the 1952 classic Baiju Bawra, starring Bharat Bhushan and Meena Kumari, which followed a young musician who challenged the great Tansen in Emperor Akbar’s court.

While the cast remains under wraps, anticipation continues to build as fans wait for an official announcement from Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
