R Madhavan Talks About Changing Global Perception of Indian Men
Actor R Madhavan, known for his charm and wit, recently made an amusing yet insightful observation about how the world’s view of Indian men has evolved over time.
During his appearance on BookMyShow’s Unscripted YouTube show alongside Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Meezan Jafri — his De De Pyaar De 2 co-stars — Madhavan said that white women now approach Indian men thinking they’re entrepreneurs.
He recalled,
“When we used to go abroad and go to a bar, all the white women would look at us like we were there to hit on them. Now, it’s such that when an Indian enters a space, four white women walk towards us thinking we’re some entrepreneur and they want to say hello.”
Madhavan’s funny take drew laughter from the audience but also reflected how India’s global image has shifted — from being seen as outsiders to being recognized as innovators and business leaders.
Madhavan Wants to See This ‘New Indian Man’ in Films
The Rocketry actor went on to add that he hasn’t yet seen this modern confident Indian man represented in cinema, and he hopes filmmakers will start portraying this version soon.
“I have not seen that Indian in the movies yet,” he said, adding that he’s eager to work with new-age directors who bring a fresh perspective to storytelling.
He also shared,
“What’s getting in my way right now is the filmyness of the industry — everyone is making stories to please their mentors.”
