Miss Universe 2025 continues to remain in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. In the latest development, Brigitta Schaback, Estonia’s representative, has officially stepped down from the title of Miss Universe Estonia 2025.
The 74th edition of the pageant, held in Bangkok, Thailand, has been marked by controversy, backlash, and high-profile disputes. Soon after global disappointment over Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch being crowned Miss Universe 2025, Brigitta’s announcement added another dramatic twist to the event’s ongoing turmoil.
Brigitta took to Instagram on November 23 to share a formal statement titled “Official Announcement”, confirming her decision to renounce the title. She stated that her values and professional ethics no longer aligned with those of the national director, Natalie Korneitsik.
She emphasized that the decision was rooted in principle rather than pressure, explaining that she did not wish to compromise her ethics. Brigitta reaffirmed her dedication to women’s empowerment and gender equality, adding that she would continue her advocacy independently — without any association with Miss Universe Estonia or its management.
Her statement read:
“I am stepping down from the title of Miss Universe Estonia. My values and work ethics don’t align with those of the national director, Natalie Korneitsik. My commitment is to women’s empowerment and equality, and I will continue this work independently.”
Earlier Miss Universe 2025 Controversies
This edition of Miss Universe has been one of the most talked-about — and not for glamorous reasons.
Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch’s friction with Thailand director
Fátima Bosch earlier faced humiliation by Thailand’s director Nawat Itsaragrisl, prompting several contestants to walk out in her support. The backlash forced Nawat to issue a public apology.
Judges questioning the results
Former Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova openly stated that the first runner-up deserved the crown more than the declared winner. She also criticized the pageant for lacking transparency.
Rigging allegations by judge Omar Harfouch
Another judge, Omar Harfouch, resigned three days before the final, claiming a “secret committee” had pre-decided the Top 30 and final results. Miss Universe President Raul Rocha countered this claim, stating that Omar had actually been removed from the judging panel.
With constant drama overshadowing the competition, the Miss Universe 2025 edition will be remembered as one of the most controversial in recent history.
