Govinda Addresses Rumours About His Lateness: “I’ve Been Defamed”
Bollywood actor Govinda has opened up about long-standing rumours surrounding his punctuality on film sets. During his appearance on Too Much With Kajol and Twinkle, the actor expressed deep disappointment over being “defamed” for allegedly coming late to shoots, calling the criticism unfair and exaggerated.
Govinda Clarifies the Situation
Speaking candidly, Govinda said,
“Mai defame huwa hu ki mai time pe nahi aata hu. Maine kaha ‘kiske baap ke andar taaqat hai ki woh 5 shift kare aur time pe aaye. Possible hi nahi hai. Itni zyada shooting kaise karega aadmi? Yaha toh ek picture ke andar thak jate hai log.’”
He explained that managing multiple film shoots in a single day was common during his peak years, and occasional delays were natural given the workload. He added that many factors — from traffic to production delays — are beyond an actor’s control.
The actor further shared that media gossip amplified the issue, turning small delays into controversies.
“People should understand before judging. Respect should be mutual among coworkers in the film fraternity,” he said.
Govinda’s Legacy in Bollywood
Born Govind Arun Ahuja, the actor is one of Bollywood’s most beloved entertainers, known for his comic timing, energetic dance moves, and mass appeal.
He became a household name with films like Ilzaam (1986), Love 86 (1986), and Hero No. 1. His collaborations with David Dhawan — including Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, and Partner — cemented his status as a comedy king.
Despite his fun-loving screen persona, Govinda has also excelled in serious roles, showcasing a wide acting range. His last big-screen appearance was in Rangeela Raja (2019).
As Govinda continues to reflect on his long and colourful career, his latest remarks shed light on how public perception and industry gossip can often blur the truth behind a performer’s professional life.
