The cast of Barbie turn the London Eye pink to celebrate the film’s premiere

Hollywood feels more than ever at the center of the universe this week as the arrival of the two biggest movies of the year coincides with a historic actors’ strike.

Anticipation for Greta Gerwig Barbie and Christopher Nolan Oppenheimer came to a head before their unison release on July 21.

While Oppenheimercritical ratings for have skyrocketed Barbie with a near-perfect score from Rotten Tomato, the latter is expected to actually take over the former in ticket sales.

Barbie is estimated to earn $110 million at the US box office during opening weekend, while Oppenheimer should collect 50 million dollars.

Axios reported this week that theaters in Texas, Washington DC and Atlanta have already sold tickets for the Margot Robbie-directed feature film about the famous doll.

OppenheimerThe London premiere was cut short, however, as the cast left early in preparation for the SAG-AFTRA strike order, which was issued hours after the event.

The actors’ union has joined the Writers Guild of America, which has been on strike since early May, over demands for increased base pay and residuals in the age of streaming TV, as well as assurances that their work will not be replaced by AI.

VOICE: The real reason behind the Barbie movie backlash

In the days leading up to the release of Barbie film, directed by Greta Gerwig, the film has come under various attacks from right-wing figures, whose problem with the film lies in what they say is a “woke” and “feminist” program. At a time of unprecedented attacks on women by conservatives, it’s no surprise they’re also attacking the things that simply bring us joy, like this movie.

Should you see Barbie or Oppenheimer first?

Now that Barbenheimer has officially arrived, have you bought your tickets? If you haven’t and are still wondering if you should see Barbie Or Oppenheimer first, here are some things to consider.

BarbieThe runtime of is 1 hour 54 minutes, and Oppenheimer is a whopping 3 hours. I’m not sure about your theaters but I had a hard time finding a place that offered a long enough time gap between the two if I were to start with Oppenheimer.

So I opted for Barbie first, that way, I would just have to sit around the cinema for an hour max, before finishing with the drama of Christopher Nolan.

Although, if time is not an issue, I’ve heard a lot of people wondering why you should see Oppenheimer first – so you can end your day on a happy note with Barbie.

Is ‘Barbie’ suitable for children?

While it would be easy to assume that Barbie is intended for children, given its source material, some parents may need more information about its PG-13 rating (equivalent to a 12A rating in the UK).

A PG-13 rating is usually assigned to titles which, according to the Motion Pictures Association (MPA), include “material that may be inappropriate for children under 13”.

Barbie earned this rating for “suggestive references and brief language.”
