Aamir Khan’s ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ are releasing two big Bollywood films on the coming weekend of Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day. Before Kovid, when the release dates of two big films were announced face to face, the industry used to try to avoid it. The general opinion in the industry was that clash hurts everyone. But this time when Aamir Khan postponed the release date of his film Laal Singh Chaddha from April and announced it opposite Akshay’s Raksha Bandhan, no one tried to avoid the clash. Otherwise, there was a general opinion among the film industry, who had already suffered a loss of billions of rupees during Kovid, that now the process of clash should stop. Otherwise, the film industry, which is already facing huge losses, will not be able to bear any further losses. Why not try to avoid the clash?
After all, why didn’t the industry try to avoid a clash between big stars like Aamir Khan and Akshay? Whereas earlier Bollywood has postponed their films like ‘Mission Majnu’, ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ and ‘Ek Villain Returns’ to avoid clash with Hollywood films ‘Jurassic Park World’ and ‘Thor Love and Thunder’. Actually, the film industry is looking at the clash of Aamir and Akshay from a different perspective. He believes that for Bollywood, which is already facing a shortage of audience, this clash looks like a ray of hope through which fans of both Aamir and Akshay can make a comeback in theatres.
‘People will watch both the movies’
Producer and film business analyst Girish Johar sees the clash between Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar’s films in a positive way. According to Girish, ‘Due to the long weekend of Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day, there are so many holidays during this period that two big films can be shown comfortably in theatres. The film industry is looking at it in a positive way because they believe that if people get variety on cinema, then more people will come to watch movies. At the same time, many people can also watch both the films on the cinema.
‘No problem with less screens’
It is discussed that Aamir Khan has signed a deal with the country’s largest multiplex company to give more than half the screen to his film. When we asked Girish how will the screen be divided between the two films? So he told, ‘Usually during any clash, the clash between the two films is a big issue. Screen sharing of films happens only at the last moment. However, even if Aamir has struck a deal for more screens, Akshay’s film will get almost the same number of shows as his film is longer. In this way both the films will be available to the audience in almost equal number of shows. At the same time, on the basis of the content, after the release, the cinema people make their shows more or less.
‘Fans of both the stars will come’
On the other hand, cinema people are also looking very excited about this clash to be held on Independence Day weekend. Talking about the clash between ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ and ‘Raksha Bandhan’ Yogesh Raizada, Vice President, Wave Cinemas says, “Cinemawalas have been waiting for a hit film since the last two months. During this, the audience rejected the films of all the big stars outright. In such a situation, we have high hopes from Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar’s films releasing on Independence Day weekend. Aamir Khan has his own distinct fan base. At the same time, Akshay’s upcoming film with Aanand L Rai can attract the family class. As for the clash, we are not worried about it because seeing the famine in the theaters in the past, it seems that both the big stars will be needed to fill the theaters on such a long holiday weekend. If the fans of both Akshay and Aamir reach the cinema in large numbers to see their favorite stars, then only the theaters will be able to become housefull. On the other hand, if one film is less liked by the audience, then at least another film will be in theaters to replace it.
