Mumbai: Aamir Khan When the superhit film ‘Taare Zameen Par’ was released 15 years ago, it shook the audience. The subject of the film, released on 21 December 2007, was so poignant that it touched the hearts of the audience. ‘Taare Zameen Par’ was made on a topic that people generally ignore or do not understand, apart from common films. In this film, the role of little child Ishaan was played by Darsheel Safary. Viewers were seen crying in Indian theaters watching this film, but the condition of the audience was similar on foreign soil as well.
In the film, Darsheel Safary played the role of a child named Ishaan who has difficulty in reading and writing because he suffers from a disease called dyslexia. Ishaan is unable to do much in his school as well but luckily he finds an art teacher, Ramshankar Nikumbh, who understands that the child is suffering from dyslexia and then helps him to recognize his potential and this teacher was Aamir Khan. This film broke the illusions of many parents and helped them to make an understanding about their children. Many understood that every child is special. The success of this film can be said that even today when people talk about this subject, they mention ‘Taare Zameen Par’. Most of the people left the theater crying after watching the film.
Foreigners came out crying after watching ‘Taare Zameen Par’
There is an interesting story about this film. ‘Taare Zameen Par’ was screened in Washington on 29 October 2009 for the International Dyslexia Association. Aamir Khan had told in an interview to the media that there were around 200 foreign visitors in the audience and I wanted to see their reaction. I wanted to know what we have done. But our concern was that this film was shown in a room instead of a cinema hall with a slight understanding. But after watching ‘Taare Zameen Par’ people came out cheering, we saw tears flowing. Seeing the audience of this film, I felt like my home Indian audience.
Disney buys DVD distribution rights
Aamir Khan also played the role of director along with Amol Gupte. This film got many awards including Best Film of Filmfare. This was the first time that an international studio bought the DVD rights of an Indian film. The DVD distribution rights of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ were bought by The Walt Disney Company.

12 crore film earned 131 crores
Taare Zameen Par released with 425 prints and became the 5th highest grossing film of the year 2007. The film was declared a blockbuster at the box office. According to the data available on Wikipedia, the film made in a budget of 12 crores had earned 131 crores worldwide.
