Mumbai: Director Sooraj Barjatya has made the audience aware of many iconic characters of Bollywood. These days he is in discussion about his recent film ‘Unchai’. During the screening of his film, he had told that he is going to bring a new project with Salman Khan.

Suraj Barjatya is especially known for his family drama films in Bollywood. Now after a full seven years, the director has made a comeback with the film ‘Uunchai’. Recently, Sooraj Barjatya in one of his interviews shared the story of one of his films years old. He told why it took so long to make Salman Khan’s blockbuster film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. Referring to his film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, Sooraj told that Salman Khan had failed in his first screen test given for this film. Not only this, he was also thrown out of this film.

Father did not trust Suraj

Sooraj Barjatya revealed many important things related to his life in a conversation with Humans of Bombay. He told that when he was 17 years old, he used to watch his father Rajkumar Barjatya making films. He was very impressed with his father’s work. He liked his father’s way of working. Boman Irani had turned down the role of ‘Unchai’, then this thing won his heart

Also worked with Mahesh Bhatt

Sooraj further explains, ‘After doing high school, I worked with Mahesh Bhatt for his film ‘Saaransh’, not college. Then Sooraj used to work for many things from giving scripts to actors to set up. But when Sooraj thought of trying his hand at film direction, his father had advised him to “take inspiration from your life,” at the same time Sooraj was determined that he would always work on family films.

When Salman was rejected in the screen test

When Sooraj started writing for his first film Maine Pyar Kiya, he was just 21 years old. He says, ‘My first script was rejected. It took me 2 years to rewrite. At that time we were going through a very difficult phase as some of our films had flopped. No actor was also agreeing to work with us. During that time I met a person whom we had thrown out in the first screen test. Then what was it, after 5 months we approached him for the role of Prem. That person was none other than Salman Khan.

Let us tell you that even after this the path of Suraj’s success was not open. Even after preparing the script and cast of the film, the matter got stuck on the budget of the film. But Sooraj had full hope that the magic of this film would definitely work on people. In such a situation, his father made this film by taking borrowed money and after its release, this film proved to be a blockbuster.
