Ever since the action packed trailer of Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Disney+ Hotstar and Zee Studios’ Sunak – Hope Under Siege has been launched, it has been receiving a good response from the audience. The film is a hostess drama, a genre that has been rarely explored in Bollywood. Whereas hostess drama is a very popular genre in Hollywood with blockbuster movies like ‘Die Hard’, ‘Speed’ and ‘Raid’.

‘Sanak’ director Kanishk Verma says, “It’s a very popular genre in the West but it’s very difficult to crack. ‘Sanak’ was born in lockdown because around January or February last year, I was on something else. Was doing work that had to go to four to five continents and then there was a lockdown. So I thought of doing something that is production friendly and which I can do in a closed space. I have always been a fan of ‘Die Hard’ Movies like ‘Speed’ and ‘Air Force One’ actually ‘die hard’ on the bus and on the plane respectively. It’s just become a genre in itself.”

Kanishk adds, “Similarly, ‘Sanak’ has a lot of real-life incidents that we have taken and a lot of books by popular author Vince Flynn that inspired me. The action sequences didn’t look repetitive so we put them in. Specially designed where Vidyut is seen fighting to disarm people using the magnetic pull of the machine, in the hospital set-up, MRI room, physiotherapy room, aqua therapy room.”

The director said, “When we were designing the action sequences for the film, I was very clear that it should be an old Hong Kong style similar to what Hollywood action superstars like John Woo and people saw in the film ‘John Wick’ Sanak has ballet type of action. It becomes easy to shoot with Vidyut as he is a brilliant martial artist in his own right. I think we have done a good job and we have got all the emotion, thrill along with great action. And have tried to keep the intrigue in the film. Hope everyone enjoys watching the film as much as we have enjoyed making it.”

Starring Vidyut Jammwal, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Neha Dhupia and Rukmini Maitra, Sunak – Hope Under Siege is presented by Zee Studios in association with Sunshine Pictures Pvt Ltd and will stream only on Disney+ Hotstar Multiplex from October 15. It is a Vipul Amrutlal Shah production film, directed by Kanishk Verma.
