The Vanniyar community had demanded a ban on ‘Jai Bheem’ even at the time of the film’s release. Apart from condemning the team, the Vanniyar group also said that they want the objectionable scenes to be removed from the film. He also demanded Rs 5 crore in damages and an unconditional apology from the Jai Bhim team. Meanwhile, Jai Bhim has been well received by the film buffs. It was also sent to the Oscars.

Suriya’s ‘Jai Bhim’ was released on November 2 on Amazon Prime Video. The film is about the custodial torture of members of the Irular community. Initially, Hindi speaking people were troubled by a scene in which Prakash Raj can be seen slapping a man for speaking in Hindi. Members of the Vanniyar community claimed that the film maligns his image. Vanniyar Sangam then sent a legal notice to Suriya, Jyothika, director TJ Gyanvel and Amazon Prime Video.

Advocate Balu, chief of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Legal Wing, has mentioned in the legal notice that certain scenes of ‘Jai Bheem’ defame the Vanniyar community. Vanniyar Sangam demanded removal of objectionable scenes and Rs 5 crore compensation. Following the notice, members of the Vanniyar community openly threatened Surya. PMK’s Nagapattinam district secretary Sitamalli Pazhani Sami also announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for those who attacked the actor.
