Farooq Zafar got this role through an audition. His daughter Mehru Zafar sent a short video of him to Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi. Both of them liked Farooq ji’s acting so much that without wasting time, they finalized Farooq ji for this role.
shooting in Lucknow itself
Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi immediately came to Lucknow to meet Farooq ji and explained to him the character of Begum. Farooq ji entered the character within minutes and she too, immediately catching the pulse of the character, said yes. Keeping in mind the convenience of Farooq ji, the shooting of the film was also done in Lucknow itself.

Farooq ji had said in an interview that he loves Amitabh Bachchan and he agreed to work in Gulabo Sitabo only because he was getting a chance to work with Amitabh Bachchan. In the film, Farooq Zafar played the role of Fatto Begum, a 95-year-old woman and the owner of a mansion on the third floor. Her husband was Mirza i.e. Amitabh Bachchan.
Ayushmann Khurrana pays tribute
Paying tribute to Farooq Zafar, Ayushmann Khurrana also shared a picture of him and wrote – Begum went. You can also see Gulabo Sitabo in memory of Begum.
