Mumbai: Actor Aditya Pancholi has moved the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the FIR lodged in 2019 for allegedly raping a top actress. Pancholi, in his petition, said that an FIR was lodged against him in the suburban Versova police station in June 2019, but till now neither the charge sheet has been filed in the case nor the police has submitted the closure report.

Pancholi’s counsel Abhinav Chandrachud on Tuesday submitted Justice NM Jamdar and Justice NR. Borkar that the non-filing of the charge sheet in the case indicates that no progress has been made in the investigation. Pancholi has sought quashing of the FIR as well as requested that the court direct the police to inform them about the progress made in the investigation.

The High Court, after a brief hearing of the case, issued a notice to the police and the woman complainant and fixed the next hearing on September 19. The court directed the police to apprise it of the status of investigation during the next hearing. Chandrachud said that the case is pending since the year 2019 and his clients are living with the stigma of being accused of rape.

Significantly, the woman has alleged in the complaint that when she was new in Bollywood, Pancholi had raped her by feeding her intoxicants. The complainant has alleged that Pancholi not only physically assaulted her but also harassed her sister.
