Hema Malini at 77: The Secret Behind Her Timeless Beauty and Fitness

Bollywood’s Dream Girl, Hema Malini, turned 77 on October 16, yet her fitness and charm remain as radiant as ever. The actor, dancer, and politician has maintained her health through yoga, classical dance, meditation, a clean vegetarian diet, and regular fasting.

In a 2008 interview with The Telegraph, Hema opened up about her daily routine, simple meals, and spiritual practices that form the foundation of her wellness.

Her Morning Ritual

Hema begins her day with a cup of saffron milk tea, made by boiling milk with kesar (saffron). She limits herself to just two cups of tea a day, accompanied by Marie biscuits.
Her breakfast is light and traditional — idlis, avoiding fried foods like vadas. On Sundays, she enjoys paneer paratha with plain curd.

Spiritual Fasting for Balance

“I fast on Mondays for Lord Shiva and on Fridays for the divine mother Durga or Lakshmi,” Hema shared.
During fasts, she consumes unsalted paneer, bananas, and a glass of orange juice to maintain energy while remaining disciplined in her devotion.

Her Healthy Vegetarian Diet

Coming from an orthodox Iyenger family, Hema strictly follows a pure vegetarian lifestyle. Married to veteran actor Dharmendra, she and her daughters Esha and Ahana Deol also embrace healthy eating habits.

She enjoys South Indian and Gujarati dishes like rasam and kadi, prepared lightly at home. “When I’m shooting, I carry my own lunch from home,” she said.
Hema also avoids mixing chapati and rice in the same meal, a rule she follows for better digestion.

Mindful Eating and Simplicity

Even while fasting, she eats fruit salads and boiled vegetables without salt, breaking her fast around 6:30 pm. Her mindful eating, regular yoga, and simple living reflect her belief that discipline is the key to long-lasting beauty and health.

“My diet is pure vegetarian. I hail from an orthodox Iyenger family; we don’t eat non-vegetarian food,” Hema said, proudly upholding her cultural roots.
